FREE event :: 108 Surya Namaska for International Yoga Day

  • Jorgenson park Kalamunda Western Australia (map)

This International Yoga Day (IYD) we have a gift for you - a free event - 108 Surya Namaska.

To honor this sacred path disseminated from the cornerstone of India philosophy, spiritual and ascetic discipline we are offering a practice of 108 Surya Namaska, aka sun salutations. “108” you say. Yasss! You can do it. 108 is a sacred number considered by ancient yogi’s to be a code to our awakening and nature, and that “By practicing chanting, breath work, or asana in rounds of this sacred number, the ancient yogis believed we could align ourselves with the rhythm of the creation, and ultimately bring an end to our cycle of reincarnation.” (Wanderlust.com). Technically IYD is celebrated on 21st June, its inception was introduced to raise awareness of the importance and impact of yoga on improving people’s health for a more active and healthier people consequently a healthier world.

Qu. 108 sun salutations seems like a lot?

A. yes it does. Fortunately we know many variations so we will begin with light movements including option for chair yoga. Options to repeat these, build on from the previous postures and/or explore other options to increase intensity depending on how you are feeling.

Qu. Do I have to complete 108?

A. No way. You do what you can. Rest when you need. Join in when you are ready. Just turning up is being part of this which is enough. We will encourage you to have fun, challenge yourself, and look after yourself.
