“Yoga has done a lot for me. It’s my way of saying thanks”

Hi Keith and teachers of Yoga Maya

Yes that's correct. Today was one of my favourite classes! Sunday Slow Flow with Kerry! Please feel free to copy and share parts of my feedback any way you wish.

Today I was looking for something that allowed me not to feel rushed and gave me plenty of opportunities to check in with my problem areas. In today's class I felt as though I was given the opportunity to settle in, without feeling rushed, I was greeted warmly, even though I was running late.

During the movement practice I was reminded to do what I felt comfortable with and never felt rushed. I was reminded props were available (prior to starting and during class) which reminded me how good it is to have those props nearby, I love using props!

With my chronic pain condition, my muscles spasm, this can be distracting but I was given enough time through the sequences/postures to use my mindfulness based techniques to compose myself and allow myself to breath and move in a meditative state, allowing the muscle spasms and discomfort to be there, without trying to change anything, adjusting and modifying if the discomfort turned to pain. Never feeling rushed or feeling like I need to keep up. Kerry also offered variations and encouraged movement, playfulness and exploration for the different postures and sequences. I'm thankful for the fluid movement offered, loosening up the joints and muscles prior to the holding postures.

For the final posture, the loving kindness meditation I feel was appropriate for everyone no matter what is happening in their life, and Kerry delivered it beautifully. It was a beautiful class today and I thank Kerry for the effort she put in to planning and delivering it.

Thanks to the guidance of Kerry, in today's class I feel I was able to achieve my intention of having enough time to check in with my problem areas before deciding how I want to move. And in return I maintained that meditative state through the sequences. This has taken me a long time to learn and I'm still learning!

I've been coming for some time now to Yoga Maya and I can honestly say I have not had a flare up or exacerbation due to the classes. I have learnt week after week that I'm responsible for the choices I make while moving through the sequences, to modify where I need to, sometimes I may push myself but then the following week set an intention to do less or modify, and less is more depending what is going on with your body! But again the week after I am reminded the same thing during class, which after some time then becomes second nature and in return allows my yoga practice to grow in a way that is healing for my own body, mind and soul. I've realised my sun salutations do not have to look like everyone else's! I really do thank all the teachers at Yoga Maya for creating such inclusive and great classes and being so welcoming each and every time.

I hope you can use bits and pieces of what you need Keith, I put more in so you can use what stands out to you. Please reach out anytime if there is anything I can do.

All the best

Lidija.
